We're back home. We left the neopagan camp at about 10:30 a.m. Monday and got back home at about 6 p.m. on Monday, a full day earlier than planned. You might surmise from this that things didn't go the way I had hoped. Indeed.
Basically, what happened was what I had feared all along: She was there just to be with me. She wouldn't get involved in the event itself, getting to know people, doing fun things. Camping for the first time in many years didn't help, either. And the weather was a little sticky, but not obnoxiously so. And the people over there tried. They really, really tried. But she wasn't having a good time, and that was becoming more and more obvious. On Sunday evening (we had arrived late Saturday afternoon), I decided to take her home early.
This is the event I had been waiting for all summer.
When I got home yesterday, I found an e-mail from S, encouraging me and wishing us well. I started writing a reply at about 11 p.m., and I was still writing at 1:45 a.m., when I was getting a little too sleepy to continue.
Once I finish it and send it, I will post it here, too.
